HARD THIRTEEN

NQ. Please introduce yourself and tell us where you’re from and when you first got into Graffiti?

Yo! I'm Hardthirteen, originally from Jakarta, Indonesia. I embarked on my graffiti journey in 2005, starting with lettering, and I've continued honing my skills ever since. In 2009, my passion shifted towards portrait graffiti, which has remained my primary focus.

NQ. Where has Graffiti and art taken you travelling so far?

Graffiti has not only enriched my art but also expanded my social circle. It has taken me on a creative journey across Indonesia, from the east to the almost-western part of the country. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to explore Southeast Asia, visiting countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong. I've also ventured as far as Australia, Switzerland, Italy, and Canada, thanks to this art form.

NQ. How do you believe Night Quill can help established artists as well as beginners?

Night Quill has been a true game-changer for me. This versatile tool isn't just for beginners; it benefits artists of all levels who work with spray paint. As I constantly strive to improve my style, I find Night Quill instrumental in my artistic evolution.

NQ. What inspires you the most in relation to your style and colour palettes.

While I draw inspiration from portrait artists, I'm currently exploring my roots by incorporating Indonesian culture into my work. When it comes to colors, I aim to stand out by using fluorescent paints not commonly employed by many artists in my country. Although they can be transparent and somewhat challenging, I'm determined to master them and make them a part of my unique artistic expression.

NQ. What is your favourite Night Quill product so far and why?

I'm a fan of all Night Quill products, but my go-to choice is the Soft Touch ‘Infrared’. It pairs exceptionally well with my favourite NY fat caps, offering smooth and broader lines. Plus, it's easy on my fingers, eliminating any discomfort. I'm eagerly anticipating the release of Night Quill's latest product, which promises to elevate my graffiti game even further.

My name is Kab 101 and I have been writing names since 1983 but I transitioned to painting my name in a way that is identifiable in spray paint in 1985.

‘‘Experimentation Is essential - I truly believe aerosol-based paint has developed from hardware to art relatable products in a very positive way.

I have tried any paint nozzle or cap that I could find to change the pressure or control of spray paint.

Can control has always been a focus as controlled lines where the way to push boundaries at the particular times of limited aerosols.

I had an attitude of teaching myself to paint clean and sharp but with the use of complimentary fades blends and details.

Development of lettering, style writing names and animation of connections even in that 2d state is like lettering and numeri’s flowing and growing - letters have life

They grow and decay, traditional signage indicates direction - we write our names publicly but sometimes encrypted embracing style over legibility.

Due to life and its experiences my hands are damaged, broken knuckles and tendon repairs since my teenage years have affected my clarity of painting.

I struggle to use paint without pain and found anything that can help me to enjoy making work with aerosols I will embrace.

It may be a certain spray cap or technique and I love Night quill as it ticks boxes towards function and versatility, creating lines easier regarding pressure and generally making controlled movements.

Night Quill opens doors to creativity that’s up to you to explore!

Loving the Kryptonite actuator, but I won’t restrict myself to one as they all benefit depending on concentration and basically having a go. I’m into this big time as this is artist made for artists.’

Thanks - KAB 101
